I'll second that. Truly awesome hospitality. Thank you very much Full Circle.

It was good to meet a few forumites for the first time and I hope the next time we meet I am in better shape for partying.

Statistics from Beyond Reason this weekend: one engine failure (re-started after anchoring and fiddling), one fouled anchor (came up with a boulder cradled in it), two green-coloured crew but no actual feeding of the fishes, 38 knots recorded on the wind speed instrument at one time, one torn headsail, one mobo baptized with fire ... and one watermelon. (Don't ask.)

Full Circle also had an engine failure on the way home.
Crossing the Ray Channel wind over tide in a F7 is *interesting*. We were slammed to a near halt many times by the short steep chop, and took loads of greenies over the front.
Got to within 3/4 mile of Burnham with the wind from SW at 25 knots (making it very close hauled), foul tide. Then the engine coughed and died Quickly whipped out the genny (no main!) and planed/luffed up as high as possible to the south bank at up to 6 knots, then eased down onto the mooring by bearing away and luffing up at the last minute. Vreny got the mooring tails, but unable to get them inside the pulpit rails, so we had to bear away gybe for another go. Fortunately the Royal Burnham Launch with Mick and Peter from RCYC were there to take a tow, and eased us onto the mooring with no further issues. We prob would have made it back to the mooring second go, but the wind was still building.
Called Engines Dunn, who came straight out in his International Rescue Craft, getting soaked on the way. What a bloke.
We established fairly quickly that the fuel gauge lies like a cheap NAAFI watch. It was still showing 1/3, but was in fact driza bone. So we stuck 5 litres of diesel in and, wonder of wonders, got instant power back.
A quick flick of the log actually shows just under 80 hours of motoring, so its about right. Makes mental note: After removal of lying sender, go wrap it around some French persons head, within the compound of the Jeanneau premises.
So, after heroic effort by Simon Engines Dunn (07703567630), we went and dug up his dinner from his allotment, and repaired to the dying embers of the Burnham Beer Festival where I compensated his slaked thirst in fine measure.

I must say that the curry thing went really well. If CentaurPipeDream Alan and Al & Tina Jones had showed, I think we might have just squeezed them in. Tee Hee. I am claiming a small Forum record. 17 at one sitting in 35ft, no waiting around.
The bottle count was also stupendous, considering it was just a social drink. You buggers. The Green Man was a nice walk and a lovely couple of pints of Adnams rounded the evening.
When we retruned to the boat, Vreny and Lynn turned the conversation round to weddings (Vreny is next....), and I came over all tired and emotional, exhibiting dire symptoms of yawning and heavy eyelids. So I went to bed and left them to it. What a fab nights sleep.

Pleased to see that Dougie Three Bottles seemed to enjoy the Raggie thing, but he is not about to flog Still Dunno and join us just yet.

Really great to meet Bernie and Mike, and I think they were a bit taken aback with the normal level of hospitality (thats my new spelling for drinking games).

Also, Clives' erstwhile chums from the motor club are great company, and they seemed to have no difficulty with the hospitaility concept either. Shame we could not stay for the rally stages, but the tide and more particularly the weather made a bit of a Horlicks of that idea. Hope it went well Clive.

No reflection on your Hospitality consumption ability Bernie, but you did look a bit surprised how many illegral immigrants were in the Saloon as you got aboard......

Sorry I missed it.

Ended up driving to Royal Harwich for Association meet on Sat night and thinking I was a wimp for not taking Flipper but with a S'ly 5 forecast for Sunday which from your descriptions turned out to be a 6 - 7 was the right decision!!

I was always told Gentlemen don't go to windward and I am trying to live up to it (even though [ex]naval Officers are not gentlemen!)

Hope to see you at Pirate Weekend - with SWIMBO and half the boys (14 & 8.5). As Swimbo is onboard we may need to overnight in Titchmarsh butt we'll see!!

Excellent hospitality from Full Circle.

Although my first time aboard the good ship I was already aware of the hospitality afforded by Jim who managed to steal away a rather nice red from the chart table which we duly consumed with the ruby murrey /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Fuel guages on boats.......notoriously rubbish......1/3rd.....80 hours.....blaming jeanneau???
No further comment me thinks... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I shall enter another post telling the tale of my first adventure on the dark side which was......

Many thanks also from self and Louise to Jim for the impressive feat of the feeding of the 5000 , well 17 on FullCircle can't have felt much different to 5000 , very much enjoyed the gathering and also many thanks to Niel and Debs for an excellent time aboard Morgana . Sunday's motorsport went well.
The event had a delay at the beginning due to a flooded section of one of the stages.

The cars got to us about an hour later than expected.
The crew at the stage start were o.k. as they (Including me) had a large barn to hide from the wind and rain in.
The finish crew (Including Tim) could only sit in there cars or stand out in the weather.

On the 1st run of the stage Car 3 (an ex WRC Subaru Impreza managed to have an Italian Job moment.
They ended up balances on the edge of a ditch with all for wheels not in contact with the ground.
The navigator said that if he had got out it was a 5 ft drop to a deep water filled ditch.
The driver reckoned that if he got out the car would have rolled into the ditch.
I got a radio call from the marshal near the scene and stopped any more cars going in and sent a Discovery to the area from the previous junction.
He got a rope onto the car and haled it back onto the track.
Second run of the stage went with no incidents.

Went to the prize giving in the Marina Bar and then for a nice meal at the Green Man.

Interesting sail back to the Deben today.
Left the marina at about low tide and bumped our way out ending up with both keel and rudder blade flush with the hull.
Once out it was all down wind, F5 to 6+ with wind against tide.
Watched a big downpour over Felexstowe.
Had to turn aside for a Big Boy when crossing the Ship lane into Harwich.

Now back home with a non working Outboard to fix and work tomorrow. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks again to Jim for the hospitality.

Jomo,
I always respect any Skipper who makes his/her decision, and its nothing to do with guts. Its a balance of all factors including boat, equipment, skill levels, crew, next years budget.
We will no doubt see you sometime soon, look forward to it.

Jim
