I have just received a letter from N power regarding a gas meter safety inspection that is apparantly overdue.

If I do not contact them within 5 days they will have no other option than to apply to the court for a Warrent of Entry.

Why have they not informed us before about the check - ah you may well ask - I quote.

"The agents do not have sufficient address details to locate the premises and therefore were unable to leave evidence of their visit".

Oh my, never heard of a letter, thsi one got to me and so does every effin bill they send. Cant wait to phone them tomorrow, daft twats.

Rant over

Of course the old gas boards had and excercised a statutory right of entry to your premises.

I'm in dispute with them because they've forced me old mum to have a digital meter with very small numbers, expect her to read it for them and then started taking £200 per month out of her account instead of her the £20 quid they're entitled too. So the old girls overdrawn for the first time in 75 years. Of course they'll pay it back eventually and compensate her if she can work out what they owe her but they don't really give a toss.

We gave the countries jewels to a bunch of careless robbers.

You could try pointing out to them that a Warrant of Entry is entirely useless, as they can't find your premises, as they do not seem to have sufficient address details /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I am with you on this one.
These bloody people think we have nothing else to do except sit around waiting in case they should wish to make contact. You could well have been away on holiday for 2 or 3 weeks. They are so unreasonable, get hold of the Area Manager and start by asking him if he is ever away, either on business or holiday during August. It is possible that he/she is not aware of these threats, that is exactly what they are, and it is not justified. Significant apology called for. Good l;uck.

I am intrigued by the requirement of a "gas meter safety inspection" and the fact that NPower are requiring it. The meter, govenor and incoming gas pipework to the house are owned by Transco who are the gas transporter. You are only buying your gas from NPower.

Transco have Right of Entry into your property to check/maintain/disconnect their equipment - they do not need a Warrant of Entry from a Court. I have used this process many times when I find a dangerous installation and the customer refuses to let me turn it off and disconnect. If they can't get in they dig up and disconnect in the street.

We have just been thro' this with Accuread. It seems surprising to them that a lot of people have something to do during the day - like work - and may not get home till gone six. One guy came at 4.35 for an after 5 slot. He put a note thro' our door saying he called at 5.10 but - silly boy- logged it on their system as 4.35. Next guy just did not come at all. Next thing we get is the death and destruction letter.

Its their standard speak for checking the readings etc. We had this a year or so back and simply changed from scottish power to atlantic saving us about three hundred quid per year for gas and electric. Pick a new supplier and they will sort everything for you. Don't know how to do these links etc but start here ://www.deals.uk.net/home/gas.html
