anyone on here any experience of a being a liveaboard in NI.

specifically carrickfergus or bangor marina?

do either have a problem with this? I'm considering living on the boat maybe 4-5 days a week?

the banns a bit far for me lol

I need a commute really into belfast carrick and bangor have excellent rail links so I can be in town or university very quick. its only 80/100 a month for unlimited rail travel, plus I should be able to use same card to visit my gf in lisburn.

carrick is a a bit cheaper for marina and train (about 30-40 a mth) compared to bangor.

I really liked how handy everything is in carrick though, sainsburys, cinema, few decent pubs and train station all pretty close, liked carrick sailing club at the boat jumble, the town itself looks a bit run down though.

just would be good to get peoples experiences in terms of facilities and friendliness etc of both and marinas attitudes to people living aboard regularly enough.

did you cost a 26ft somewhere I saw cimona, for bangor?

It wasn't a realistic price. But with the costs between Bangor and Carrick being so close, I'd choose Bangor. Bangor actually has a town centre, decent pubs and restaurants close to the marina (a bit less stabby if you know what I mean) and the Flagship Centre and Cinema are close by too.

There is also the pontoon behind the Odyssey? The only issue there is the lack of supermarket close by - Yorkgate is close but seems a bit of a hike.

Carrick is a bit dingy at best.

Others have said that the ashore facilities of the marina are important though. Especially showers.

theres nothing in the way of facilities though at the odyssey, water/electric etc. I could just join a hotel gym in town for showers etc, but no water/electric would be a total pain.

I liked omniplex/sainsburys/windrose on doorstep in carrick, its the town away from the marina that is putting me off tbh a bit stabby as you say. Mind you bangor is notorious for fights at night.

I was in Carrick a few weeks ago. A bit bleak.

I would choose Bangor. Forget the 'showering in a gym' lark. You will soon get sick of that. Pay extra for good facilities - they are worth it.

the pontoon at in belfast marina, has water and electric.

would also save me the commute and the train costs.

hmmm. I don't know how well set up it is though compared to bangor, security wise as well.

no showers/24hr toliets, but if saving £100 a month, I could near join the merchants gym over the bridge lol
