I am looking at having a boat trucked from Marseille to N France and need info on recommended ports/marinas/boat yards with capabilities for a 50 LOA/65 foot mast timber cutter for launch and mast stepping. Le Harve and east prefered. I visited Fecamp, Dieppe and Boulogne few years back but wasn't looking for facilities.

I got lifted in Boulogne a couple of years back. On one side of the yard they do ships and the other side (into the Basin Napoleon) they do yachts - they had two hoists to cater for all sizes. Run by the Town, the charges were reasonable. I seem to recall a crane but can't remember if it was part of the yard equipment or separately called in. The guy running the yard took infinite care - in the morning he slipped a ship, in the after he lifted me and at every stage asked me if I was satisfied (position of strops, position in yard, blocks, private key to yard loo and showers). All in all it was quite a pleasant experience. Stuck me back in within 30 minutes of me saying I was ready.

I would say that any of the major ports would do it. As Ken says Rouen would mean a slightly shorter delivery and it's a nice trip down the river.

Please note that it's Le Havre and not Le Harve... Many English people pronounce it this way.

Hi. Last year we had our mast taken down in Le Havre before going through the canals. Try contacting him to see if he also puts them back up! He is Stephan Reiset of Chantier Naval & Manche 06 19 46 46 23 or www.cnhm.fr He speaks reasonable English. Good Luck.
