Mysterious tsunami in August 2021 that went round the world

In August 2021 there was a earthquake deep within the earth at 47km, close to the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic. Strangely tghis set off a tsunami and although the eathquake measure 7.5, it was infact a series of eathquakes. One of them was 8.2 but only 15km below the surface and this caused the tsunami. The eathquake was 400km long. It is an interesting article to read in the Independent (no paywall).

Seem to remember it was blowing a hooley that week in the channel, we were trying to get down to the west country.

In August 2021 there was a earthquake deep within the earth at 47km,

'Deep within the Earth' from our own (piddling) perspective, but still only about seven thousandths of the way to the centre of the Earth, apparently, and 26 thousands of the way through the Earth's mantle. Us humans are so shallow!

An earthquake of measuring 8.2 and 400km long seems huge to us, but I guess it's tiny in terms of the whole planet, and potential movements/ruptures within it.

12th August they say. A lovely day, I was sat in Scarborough supping a few pints and swapping war stories with an old mountaineering chum who I had not see since an epic trip to Scotland some 30 years ago. 13th August and the small incident of 35 knots over the deck just north of Whitby. I wonder if that wee Earth burp on the other side of the planet cause a windy day in north Yorkshire?
