Zillions of mini sailing boats fighting it out around the cans yesterday in brisk winds.Piloted by real youngsters, safety boats desperately trying to keep some sort of control.
To the uninitiated similar to mirror but with a trucated sail. Some sort of drop keel ?
What were they ?
Have couple of grandchildren and want them to have an early introduction to the water.

Only yacht clubs seem the least bit interested in attracting youngsters.
The motorboat industry appears totally fixated in old rich people and has cheerfully abandoned 99.9 % of the population?

It'll be worth having a look at Wilsonian Sailing Club too, they're just a little further down river and have a very active cadet section.

Matt

On 16 June, same day as the river festival, MYC are hosting the Honda Youth RIB Challenge. Lots of kits zooming about in RIBs. It's an RYA event open to kids from other clubs but they don't get many, which is a pity.

If you want to get them on the water either on their own or in a 2 person dinghy you can bring them down to MYC for the RYA try sailing event 'Push The Boat Out' day on Saturday 19th May. I believe booking with the office in advance is helpful 01634 718399 to avoid disappointment etc.

Hopefully the weather will be kind....!

Thanks for your thoughts.Live in Upnor, so but a few seconds away from MYC.
Unfortunately the aformentioned nippers are under the age limit. .
However might press gang them along just to watch,....err..... one assumes the bar is open ?

That's a shame they are a little young for trying Oppies.

I started my daughter sailing her own dinghy when she was about 9, after a few minutes watching the fleet and she decided herself it looked like fun and wanted to join in.

The bar will be open of course!

Had a five year old Aussie helming my boat under spinnaker last year. He'd started off with Oppies back home. OK, it was only F1 gusting 2 but I was quite impressed. Might have to get him back to give lessons to the other crew.

My "crew" are that age and want to find out if it is of any interest at all to them.

Ahem.....
Only obvious problem will prising the Ipad out of their grip, explaining there is nowhere to charge it on this boat and no the club WiFi will not work that far away from clubhouse !
