My vid from torquay devon

hi warpa
there are slip ways all round the area, from brixham-paigton-torquay- and round the bay at teignmouth.

my cost for the boat and trailer inc car park is £11 to launch, £5 trailer park £7 car park all day

Im real happy with torquay, as there plenty of space, you can wash and flush your boat afterwords, toilets and showers just behind slip way.

if your new then come on down its highly recommended and the bay is very safe as long as you dont venture out past the two end points of hope nose or berry head you will be ok, another nice place to anchor is meadfoot beach/cove just 7-10 min past torquay before you get to thatchers rock.
the harbour master office you can pick up for free the tor bay navigation map, very handy to keep on the boat.

If we are down there we will be happy to help you or show you the rops. there are locals in this forum that can give you more info on the other slips, im not to sure so would rather not give you wrong information

That really does sound like a plan, unfortunately i have had my quoter of holiday this year, all 4 days of it and im self employed allegedly:mad:
having said that its not too far away for a long weekend, 6-7 hours at trailor speed, but then there is the hidious traffic to cope with:eek:

Have to admit m5 on a friday afternoon, is bad ques from bristol down to jct 23-24, then saturdays its ques nrth and south the most of the day, and sunday it all pilles back up the m5 and ques from 25-26 right up to bristol jct 18-17 .

But torquay has been a great place for the family to build there confidenence, weymouth was ok but has got realy expensive for me £35 all in but waters are so different and i feel more dangerious

How often do you get out there, i see from your sig you are miles away from the west coast:confused:

Hi warpa
we are down in bridgwater, so torquay for us is 1h.25m point to point, not far, we get out on the boat when the weather suits, 2-3 a month back down again on sat or sun and may have a second day on monday.

we used to use weymouth alot becuase it closer, but the A roads make the journey longer nearly 2 hours to portland or 1.40 to town slip, torquay is all motorway/duel carriage ways up to newton abbot, easy journey in a landrover td5 and our 3 year old snipe twin axle trailer is great to pull, very secure.

I can understand your concerns at "leaving" the bay but if you wait for a quiet day you will find the trip very easy.

Why not stick your nose out past Berry Head and if you are happy with the conditions then go for it! You can literally see the Mew Stone off Dartmouth once you you round Berry Head.

Not sure about the fuel required, but there is petrol on the Dartmouth fuel barge.

If you are happy with the required course on your paper chart then you will be able to navigate by eye to the Mewstone and then stay outside the cardinals and you are there.

Alternatively take the trip boat around and see for yourself and show your wife that it is straight forward.

Good Luck!!

Jim

Yes just go for it, only about 8 miles from Torbay, very easy trip. On a good day I'd happily do it in my 10' tender. You will love the Dart.

Will bookmark this spot for a visit next year, would be lovely to get out into the 'sea' as opposed to channels im stuck in.
