Yup, the head unit has expired. Replacements are not available and as I'm on the move I don't want to wait around for it to be repaired. So I'm thinking to myself, would an alternative make of auto pilot work with the exisiting Vetus hydraulic pump/ cylinder/ rudder position indicator/ fluxgate compass? Or do I have to start from scratch?

I guess the the latter two might be problem but I can't see why the hydraulic pump wouldn't work with a different head.

What does the forum think? Or.... has anyone got a Vetus AP2S head for sale....cheap? :p

Cheers,

Crispin

My aps2 compass pilot compass went wrong last year , lukily vetus in Holland had a few obsolete complete kits ( compass , pilot head and tiller indicater and all looms /brackets etc ), they were discounting out for £300.00. was like receiving a brand new pilot.
So was cheaper to buy that and have a few spares. They did want my old head in part ex tho.

Ahhh well this was thier reply:

We still have some opportunities to let repair these panels. Not every panel repair is possible, because of an lack of parts but in most cases the workshop manages to repair the panel. New panels are not available anymore. A repaired panel is possibly available but would cost about € 350,00.

The best option to our opinion is to save the money and buy a new state to the art autopilot. Vetus presently has no autopilot in his sales program. Please take into count that your present autopilot is a design of the 90's.

We hope we informed you sufficiently.............................

Shame they don't make a newer version themselves that would work with the existing pump etc. If one can't get the pump/cylinder to work with another brand I can't see why anyone would want to fit Vetus hydraulic steering.........................
