Today, I emailed Marc Lombard, who designed my Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 35 asking if he could supply a General deck layout CAD file for the SO35 so I can design a Radar arch on the back of my boat.

He responded within an hour with a .dwg file so I can get on with the job.

He has not requested payment, and added that if I need more info to contact his offixe again.

I am truly gobsmacked at the service, the courtesy and the free information. Thank you so much Monsieur Lombard!

Obviously a well brought up garçon. Unlike Jean-Paul Jeanneau who has been giving you so much trouble.

an impressive twiddle of the keyboard to get a circonflex Ken.

Chantiers Jeanneau almost provided me with a decent product, I just had to spend time ragging their sorry asses until they got the message. We are now in ownership equilibrium.

I doubt if they want me again as a customer, and I doubt if I ever want to buy another new boat.

Without wishing to cast nasturtiums upon East coast mud, may I make a suggestion?

Once you have 'nailed' it on paper (I mean on screen), pop along to Screwfix and get some electrical plastic conduit and t-joints and do a mock up so that you get all those loverly handhold points 'just so'. And the height and rake absolutely right when you row away from the boat..

You going for davits/solar panel array/windgenerator/ aereals/mob gear/anchor light/rear awning as well?

I quite like those gimbled backstay thingies, at least in theory. Probably cost as much as a new radar?

Yes, had intended to make a mockup. All facility for future will be built in, but not necessarily right now.
There are a lot of design hints in the basic styling of the boat, and it will have to match the windscreen rake, amongst other things.

Had a quote for a basic budget of £4k from Mr Stainless. Apparently he made one for a Jeanneau 45 which was £8k. Wow.

So, FC, your gonna be blingin yer AWB?!

Well... better put some piccies on when yer done eh!

I am unsure if I would wanna be adding anything to the back of a SO35... which already suffers from considerable girth aft.... (smiley icon)

Sounds to me like it would just be easier to buy a new boat.

As the designer of RMs, Marc Lombard participates alongside the manufacturer in the RM association meetings to try and improve design aspects of RMs. He really does seem to care.

You cant buy a boat with all the features I want on it.
I also recognise that the boat would be largely uncompetitive on price if it were all on there, and not everyone would want half the carp that I fitted.
My boat is only the canvas to work on over time.
I enjoy boatfixing almost as much as actually sailing. When we anchor up after a days sail, you will mostly find me with a beer precariously balanced next to wherever I am working.

Are you sure you own a boat ?

Or do you have a Volkswagen Crisis ?

That's good to know as he designed my boat as well. Could I trouble you for his email address in a PM? (Don't want him to get spammed)

just google marc lombard naval architect - its on the home page of the site. Quite surprising that he does kit boats too.....

Nice one.

Wow- And I thought I was fussy !

I like the jointed washboards--I did it once using a continuous rubber strip 'hinge' and could flip up the top board after hearing 'That wave' coming up astern and before it came aboard, just...
This time around a nice pair of really solid unvarnished companionway doors is the plan with a bit of help from Santa's secret Arctic Teak plantation..

Here's one idea that has worked really well this year re lighting.. Those ''2 led battery lamps for a quid'' from the pound shop have been fitted in engine bay and most awkward or night time lockers, an absolute and simple blessing..Whether they continue to work we shall see..

Please post piccies of the stern addition as it evolves- it will tick a lot of boxes for pots of people on here, I would imagine..£1k sounds about right for the actual building, don't forget the ships bell ( and steam whistle?)..

may I suggest a new acronym? FC== Fully Complete export model..

Yep, I have fitted the LED push push lamps above all cabin door entrances, but they are not bright enough to be of much use in a detailed engine bay. I have just taken delivery of 19LED replacement G4 halogen bulbs, so will try those.

When you've done (and experienced all the problems), let me know and you can come and do mine for a reasonable charge. (Seriously worth recording the exact design with changes as you build/fit ...)

Also interested in the electric keel, washboard stowage, etc etc etc

(Or at least provide loads of photos / spec sheets / part numbers etc)

AS to Marc's response - it is truly fantastic to see this level of customer support.
