...has died. Took him along to AW Marine at Haslar to be given the last rites. It appears that the antenae had gone open circuit and hence when I tried to use the radio, I unknowingly blew the RF circuit.

Point is that Ive got to sort something out before the Butts X Channel on the 25th. So
who knows where the best deals are to be had in the £150 range for a fixed radio with DSC.... Then of course Ive gotta go up the mast and fix replace the antenae.. really looking fwd to that!

Yes - it is very sad - ours died too - or so it seemed (may in retrospect have been the aerial). But we still can't bear to throw it away so it sits in the garage.

Have you thought of the "up" side ? All that space released for new toys by the chart table !

I had the same thing happen to my Sailor last May. I found a guy that fixed it for me for a lot less than buying a new quality set. I'll dig out the details when i'm on the bost this weekend and PM them to you.

Humm... Yes I rather thought that the old chap might be repairable, but having had to pay £50 quid to find out that it was bust, the thought of paying to get it fixed especially when he had told me it wasn't worthwhile was a touch painful!

Would be interested in yr repairer though .. Many tks Nick

AW marine is a rip off, definitely seek another opinion. They wanted nearly £300 to fix a Stowe wind vane which was erratic, They told me it was essential to be done or it would fail completely, I refused to have it done, refused to pay for his inspection costs and 4 years later it still working just as before. Steer Clear of AW Marine

Yup... Just received the invoice for the 45 mins work carried out £66....! To be fair I knew I was going to be charged £46 quid to check out the problem (+ vat) But he has now also charged me further £20 to check out the radio... well excuse me but wasnt that what I took the boat and radio down there in the 1st place for.

So £66 for 45mins work and no parts or comsumables.. I could almost get a cheap lawer for that.

All best... Nick
