My marine wax does not last as advertised....

The GTechniq products sound great but what about a boat where the gelcoat has gone flat in the sunshine already … what should we use before the GTechniq stuff? I've never heard of IPA (thought it was a beer!) … where can I get some? Is there a brand name to look for?

I'm afraid you are still going to have to work the surface to a point where it has an astonishing reflection before applying any protective product.

Let's not forget the condition / reflection IS the main protection.

I would much rather work with the beer type of IPA, but I doubt too much will end up on the surface.

No brand to look out for, but purity.

If you go down the C1 & EXO route, you won't be needing any wax.
If you go down the wax path, don't further apply anything other than the same wax.

I would opt to use specific products for the other surfaces.
Thank you very much Tony. You are really helpful.
Before going to purchase the C1 + EXO, I have some final questions.

1. Since I still have some bottles of C2, can I layer up the C2 to achieve the same (similar) effect as C1 ?

2. From your explanation, EXO is for the toppest layer. So after some months/years of applying the EXO, when the beading effect starts to
fade away, should I re-apply EXO? Or I should apply C1 on top of the old EXO and then the new EXO? Or I should to remove all the old
stuffs and start over?

3. My boat, Quicksilver 855 weekend, is 9 meters long, how much C1 and EXO do I need?

Appreciate for your help.

1, I'm going to say yes it is similar as I can see you've understood they are both bases; however, personally I would suggest you apply C1.

2, Yes, once the beading starts to fail and the bead height falls below par you should apply further EXO. This is now going to be your sacrificial layer as well as your beading. You should not have to replace the C1 provided you keep on top of the EXO.

3, Suggest 50ml of each.

I can't stress enough how important it is to remove all the old wax and C2 and following the application instructions correctly.

Lastly, why not put all this to work on one patch or section before moving on to the entire gel coat.
You'll be able to check if everything is going to plan and will only cry a little if for any reason it goes wrong.

Appreciate for your suggestions, Tony. I will follow your valuable experience.
Starting on a small section is a good advice, these products are not cheap after all.
