My invasion of Europe - all a ghastly mistake.

May I firstly refer the Forum to the following post which I humbly submitted here just over a year ago:-

"I am proposing to invade Europe on the 10th of July. The U.S. Republican Party are all for it, but I have had great difficulty persuading the French and the Germans that this is a good idea. However I remain convinced that France possesses items of mass consumption, and I have reason to believe that they can deploy an extremely ripe camembert at 45 minutes notice.
My coalition will be joining at Ramsgate Marina and we will establish a beach-head after landings at either Dieppe or Fecamp. Progress will be slow because we will be going against the tide of public opinion."

Well, now it turns out I was sadly misinformed. Once ashore, we simply could not find IMC's anywhere, and as for the overripe camembert (supposedly deployable in 45 minutes) that was equally elusive. But, hey! surely I can't be held to blame for basing my entire passage-plan on what some bloke may or may not have said to someone he thinks he might have met in pub somewhere - can I?

Glad to find someone else who shares my opinion that the 'cuisine' at many French harbourside restaurants is abysmal. Having recently done a research passage by land of the north-eastern French harbours I was extremely disappointed by the quality of 'yer average' yachty restaurants. Delve a bit behind the coastline and you can find the sort of places the country is famous for, but I often feel France no longer deserves its gastronomic reputation.

Many thanks for your observations on French quisine. It is the diet of half-truths, spin and whitewash with which we are fed in this country that occupies me more.

I must agree, anyone who feels the need to apologise in advance of the result of the enquiry he should launch (with the "chair" being his appointee, and the enquiry confined to a narrow agenda set by him) clearly has not done his homework well enough to know that the teflon principle is paramount, must therefor have traces of conscience and honesty, and is therefor wholly unfitted for any office.

James, if IPC would kindly care to sponsor my research, I would be very happy to prepare a guide on suitable eating places for visiting yachtsmen. Being reasonably modest, I think I would have to limit my research to the North and West coasts of France.

"The Sybarite's Guide" ??

James, did I see you in that Michelin restaurant 'Chez Maree' in St Vaast a week ago? If not it was your twin brother?
