Just have a look what the pillocks have done now, now that we have sussed out the loophole on registration. Gonna cost us all to keep our kayaks there now. unbeleivable
Ye Gods that's bonkers. My daughter regularly attends an adventure camp there which is run just for the six weeks of the summer hols. They run a great camp and include hill walking, canoeing and sailing. This means they have use of about 16 canoes and 8 sailing boats. These do not 'live' at Derwent water but are taken up there for the summer from various other places around the country. This extra cost could make the whole thing much less viable - yet the kids and staff obviously spend money in the local community and have a great time at the camp enjoying the best the lakes have to offer.
Beleive me these guys are now wishing they had never listened to the tree hugging loonies and never implemented the speed restriction. Watch this space, either the limit will be revoked and all back to normal or wardens unaffordable and therefore lake not policed and all back to normal.
Win win me thinks. Apart from that no one has acctually kept to the limit any way so what the bloody hell was it all about anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
They have obvioously wanted to stop people enjoying all activites. First power boats the 4 wheel drive, then guided walks for white people. Now you wont be able to put a boat on the lake because it will be too dangerous without wardens which they can't afford. Next it will be outward bound and walking on the fells (damage and not enough rangers).
Yeah I wonder what the answer from boat owners will be. "yes we think its a really good idea and will work really well with the speed limit" I dont think so /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
hi Ian i,m sorry to hear that some of them jobsworths may lose there jobs, especially the one who sent my 12 year old son a caution letter for playing on our bombard ax3 with a 2hp engine and accused him of making to much wake and going to fast in the 10mph zone and this was before they even introduced the speed limit, let me know if you are having a collection for them so i can make a donation
It would mean all those kids and teenagers who wanted to prat about in anything from a sailing dinghy, rowing boat, canoe and, I guess, a blow up aligator would have to register on WINDERMERE, CONISTON, DERWENT WATER, and ULLSWATER.
So the net result is no use of any of the lakes for any purpose without registration and fees. Now thats sorted they can start on the fells.
Bloody hell. I've SSRed Slippy. Now I'll have to register the Heron as well, oh and my tender.
I agree with Ian. They'll have to alter their policies. Don't forget they've no hand on the helm at the moment. Tiplady was behind all this shite, so it's going to be a good 6 months before anything happens. My guess is a compromise climb-down.

"Black Sail will get more and more wonderful as the Wild Ennerdale project takes place,” added Sir Chris. " This would be the project to close Ennerdale to any traffic at all so that even Forestry vehicles can't go up to the Hostel. (Radio 4, this morning)
Ah yes, Sir Chris Bonnington who was passionately & vociferously in favour of the Windermere speed limit and therefore, in my view, shares some responsibility for the current mess.
Of course, he lives in the Lakes so naturally won't want to see noisy, smelly visitors
I was going to say "unbelievable" - but in fact it is believable. Lots of organisations in this country are now run in the same knee-jerk (or this that just plain Jerk!) manner. I should know, I work for one!
It seems to me that there is a movement to preserve the Ntaional Parks as set pieces for the Nation. In the case of the lakes I'm sure there are many people including The Friends of the Lake District who desire to keep the region as unchanged landscape, ideally from the 1900 period.
Of course to do this the only people allowed would be nobody who would impinge on the environment. I.E. Nobody.
