The industrial area near the city centre has been extensively redeveloped now into water side clubs restaurants, science exploration centre, huge Lloyds TSB building etc. Still lots of industrial type areas not that far away tho
ha ha ...thats absolutely spot on,judging by the pontoons in the harbour on one of your photos you were there for the harbour festival ?
was going to post this but figured it was to easy, I had just sailed back from Ireland (dunleary) and my son stopped on Clifton Suspension bridge to get these shots, aerial views always look great.
The boat was in Bristol harbour when I bought it, and I moved it to Portishead ASAP. Bristol is a great place to visit, but no good to stay if you want to go sailing (or park!)
They put pontoons out every summer for visitors anyway - the pics were taken in September, quite a while after the Festival
To noisy and no security put me off, to many drunken bums on a friday night P*ssing in your cockpit, and then jumping on board to use the rigging as a climbing frame.
Portishead a bit more up market though, did weigh up the options but I have more work further south and the commuting is a drag.
There are a few other rivers like that. The outfall from the Mersey puts a brown stain 20-odd miles out into the Irish Sea. The Humber is a similar colour too - as is the Thames, Orwell & several more.
At nthe risk of being shouted down for showing off my seafaring, the Amazon puts a stain into the sea that goes out a bit further than any of these rivers efforts!
When you fall in the Severn, you don't swim - you just go through the motions...
