If the boat sank, so would the EPIRB , unless someone grabbed it. I'm thinking of putting it in a small, deep,open-topped box while sailing so that it would float free in a disaster. What do you think?
My EPIRB has a magnet and reed switch so when the EPIRB is in its bracket the battery is not connected so no current draw from battery. If you remove it from the bracket you will start using the battery capacity (very slowly) and this will shorten the life when you need it the most.
