My Easter trip and I can\'t wait...
This is the trip I'm doing Thursday---Weather permitting!!.
We leave Shepperton at 5.oopm Thursday night so as to get through the open sluices at Richmond Lock before 8.00pm. (2x hours after h.w). Then its down to Chiswick pier for the night. A few beers in a local hostillery and up next morning. Walk to "Fat boys Thai Cafe" for a mega-blaster heart-attack breakfast and then on down to Dover for refuelling and lunch, assuming the river police don't delay us too long at Houses of Parliament, apparently they are stopping all non-local traffic and boarding them??. Leave Dover and then straight round to Sparks Marina. Shepperton to Sparks 11x hours motoring, including the locks. Should only be about 8 1/2 from Chiswick including hour lunch/refuel at Dover. The forecast for Friday looks superb for the trip N'ly 3-5mph. Don't really have to worry about tides too much as there is depth at low water from Chiswick down-stream, only really need to keep a very keen eye on depths round the in-shore route Sheppy to Margate. I will see if I can do it this time without being b*ll*cked by Greenwhich Radio for allegedly not giving a 60,000 ton ship enough distance as it was "bunkering". They obviously tracked me on their radar and got confused or a jobs-worth just making a point. Anyway. Once down at Sparks say hello to my old mooring spot (and Nick and the Mariners) its over to Cowes for Saturday and Saturday night, pick the family up Sunday from Sparks then up to Poole Sunday afternoon over night at Dolphin, Weymouth Harbour wall Monday back to Sparks Tuesday via Salty's for lunch. Oh its good to get back down on the Solent. I've been restricted to 8mph on the Thames since December I can't wait.
