I have a Cranchi Ellipse 21, when i accelerate and and am going along my boat leans to port, i have to keep slowing down and can only accelerate if i steer starboard. I've been told its a ballast problem, a weight distribution problem, hull damage or the leg isn't on straight. the hull is ok, not added or removed any weight. Has anyone had similiar problems or any advice on what this could be, its doing my head in!!

Check there is no water in the Hull.
Check there is no heavy stuff on one side (inc Wife)!
Ie tools , batteries, water tank, ie balance the weight distribution.
You say "Not added any weight" etc etc.
Has the boat behaved OK in the Past?

I'd second that. We had a Cranchi Giada 30 which would lean to one side or the other as you came up to speed. Trimming the leg sorted it out. After a while it became natural and I'd trim the legs as she came over the hump and no lean occured. From memory trim from -5 to between 0 an 2 was about right.

Our Sealine 215 does the same, but we do carry a lot of gear with us!
She also tends to lean into the wind a bit, may sound daft, but does it happen when you point the other way?
A bit of tab sorts it! Might be worth finding out how much it would cost to have tabs fitted.

I run a Cranchi 21, you should Not be getting this problem! Have you had a look at the fin underneath the cavitation plate? Try checking this ie, if the boat leans or tries to turn to port, the tab needs to be moved to Port.
I do not thing this is a weight problem, fuel and water tanks are central, I can sit two people on the gunnel, boat will stay straight and I dont have trim tabs, dont need them. If the nylon steering bush has worn in the top of the leg, this can cause problems at slow speeds but once on the plane its ok, but steering stiff.
Have a look if the leg can be moved from side to side.

I had some trouble with my shetland doing a similar thing so i think i can help.. a little..
Firstly is the boat ballanced when stationary or does she sit with either port or starboard lower than the other. I actually used a big spirit level to see how she sat with different loads.
How many people do you have on board? and where do they sit?

Also if its a single sterndrive, there is often a fin which can be adjusted to counter the boat steering towards port or starboard.

From the info i got from people, small planing boats are very sensitive to lots of different factors so there are alot of things to check before you go investigating your hull etc.

regards,

Nick
