Off for 2 weeks Saronic/Argolic on May1. Can anybody in situ quote me the current rate for:
Litre of marine diessel, delivered by tanker
33 cl Mythos, bought in small supermarket
Kilo of white, same supermarket
Kilo of white, taverna
Packet of cigs (although I should have stopped by then)

I think if it will cost you more than 1-2 euro a day extra than last year. that will be about it.
If you cannot afford this. STOP smoking And watch out for the wild dogs in Little Vathi

Stopping smoking is very high on programme - recently diagnosed spinal injury+osteoprosis= stop in 2 weeks

Re dogs - any recipe hints?

Not Saronic but in general.
diesel is around 123/125 at the fuel stations`(petrol is now 153 a litre!)
500cl Mythos supermarket 95cents ish.
5 kilo of wine (cheaper in bulk) around 8 euro.
Taverna around 6 to 8 euro a litre, kokino crasi or aspro crasi.
Packet of Assos international (similar to embassy) 2.50 ish.

Ok my Greek needs much improvment, but I watched NET last night and petrol in Crete was 1.56 europs, much arguments!
Last night the Greek bonds crashed (euronews) we all await the outcome, not only of Greece but mainly the uk elections to determine savings accounts (interest rates) plus the strength of the pound. I did notice that a large amount of rich Greek dudes were removing as much cash as they could from Greece.
Anyway, I shall start a STOP KNOCKING PLEAS forum shortly, because he talks a lot of sense.

Aegina prices for a tanker delivery of diesel is €1.25 per litre (5 cents more than forecourts)
Mythos I'm not sure of but Dia sells a good drinkable Brau at €0.55 for 500mls.
Again with white wine I'm not sure of but with red for €12 or less will get you a 5 litre box from a small supermarket. A Taverna (red again) is around €3.90 upwards but lets say an average of €4.50 for a half kilo.
Cigs, you can still find pack of 30 Pall Mall for €3.00 this is a pre tax price. Marlbro post tax is €3.80 for a 20 pack.
To stop smoking before a visit to Greece is a brave effort, it seems most people smoke and I don't think I've been in a Taverna or restaurant that enforces the no smoking rule inside or out. Hope you come well equipped with a strong will power..........good luck

To stop smoking before a visit to Greece is a brave effort, it seems most people smoke and I don't think I've been in a Taverna or restaurant that enforces the no smoking rule inside or out

In my neck of the woods (Kefalonia) the smoking ban has been erm, banned!

Yes were smoking and drinking and driving while 'officialy' drunk(STUPID I KNOW) and do lots of crazy stuff and will find a way out.For shure many will suffer but we're not going to let it get to us.I'd rather do all that over here than live somewhere where you can't to do all that because there's nowhere to go after hours and they tell us when to go to sleep and how much to drink or where to smoke.We make an examble of how to turn a law into nothing else but dead letters if it goes against our mentallity.Not right i know but don't you just love the way we improvise.Pretty soon a new cig brand will come out that will cost half as much and some new beer will be likewise.But petrol and diesel forget it will be dearer than now.Enjoy it while it lasts...

smoking or not?

In my neck of the woods (Kefalonia) the smoking ban has been erm, banned!

i remember the days when smoking in one's workplace was OK, even if non-smoking colleagues were uncomfortable. Ditto restaurants. Am all for ban in public places.Am now (until stop-smoking day) an outside smoker, also at home.
Small worry about starting the "magic meds" (Champix) - can cause suicidal/homicidal side effects. Not sure I want to do that on the boat!

Please do not worry too much about these side effects as they are pretty uncommon. More likely if you have had such tendencies previously, but I would hope you had discussed this with whoever prescribed them, and they would have discussed your risks with you. Note they do not work immediately, so if your trip is soon, get started on them sooner. Time your taking of them so that you are still taking them whilst in Greece so they will bolster your will power in the face of the other smokers! Have fun, and you may not notice the lack of fags

Just bought the 1st packet today, will start this weekend, if no homicidal tendencies within week 1, will carry on though the hols.
Actually, my (few) previous homicidal moments have often occurred on boats (think connecting winch handle with Popeye's head). Now mostly resolved since I have my dazedkipper - thanks RYA for saving my marriage
