On the Broads Authority website, it currently states, 1st June update; "Mutford Lock is now operational. Passages through the lock are being limited to single boats per passage, whilst the gate function is evaluated over this week of spring tides. There is a back-log of pre-booked passages, so anyone looking to come through Mutford Lock is advised to contact the lock operators early to check capacity and suitability of tides.

To book or for further enquiries please contact the Bridge and Lock Operative on 01502 531778, the Harbour Master's office on 01502 574946 or via VHF Channel 73."

If you call 01502 574946 you get a message which states Mutford Lock is now operational, and telephone the same number if you want to book a passage. Seems a bit odd as there didn't appear to be the option of leaving a message.

If travelling from the south, in about 2.5 weeks time, depending on weather, would a sensible option be get ourselves up to Lowestoft and try and make contact from there, perhaps via channel 73?

My experience relates to last year, however I did find I had to telephone more than once to find someone "at home", but once contacted they were very helpful I would and were able make make a booking for us. I would not advise waiting until you are in Lowestoft and trying to contact them on Ch73 as they only use a handheld and even when I knew they were expecting us we could not make contact until well up Lake Lothing. If they are not operating the lock the H/H will probably not be switched on.
