Not sure if this is boaty or non boaty as per the new edict but Kim can move it if I've got it wrong

One the the best times on the boat for SWMBO and me is sitting in the cockpit on a warm evening enjoying a drink and listening to a CD.

Last year our favourites were Norah Jones, a selection of late night jazz, Sheryl Crowe and the quirky bluegrass soundtrack from "Oh Brother Where art thou".
This year we have added Madyline Peroux.

So feel free to mock and knock my musical taste but what do you listen too whilst reflecting on a pleasant days boating

Nothing wrong with your taste in music - but I personally prefer the peace and tranquility of evenings aboard and the sound of the environment.
- I don't always get it though !! - "Can you tune the tele in for 'east enders ?!!'

Excellent taste. Swmbo probably has lots of these which drone away in the background. My own library mostly comprises CD's with the some or all of the words "twenty" or "golden" or "greats". I have got a Lulu cd but don't tell anyone.

I wish there was a way to export the library from Windows Media player. I've uploaded all my albums there, then ranked every single track on each album. The result is an automatic playlist of favourites. Brilliant, and quite illuminating, as previously I never had any idea how ecletic my choices were, and now can play all my favourite tracks, no matter which album they are on, all in one hit.

Here's one most will not have heard of. Lizzie West - Chariots Rise

Had a lovely summer evening last year at Cookham.

We moored facing upstream - as one does - when a large (40ft?) sports cruiser moored behind us facing downstream. i.e. back to back with us.

Around 6.oo p.m. the three guys on board (aged about 60) produced two guitars and a set of drumsticks. Two strummed guitars whilst one used the lockers, guard rails, floor etc. as drums. For about two hours they played and sang 1960's music totally ad lib. Little groups gathered on the banks and just stood and listened. They then opened another can of lager and carried on.

It was the best impromptu concert I've heard in my life and we had grandstand seats.

That's my kind of boat music. I don't know who they were, but they had obviously played together as a band before.

I tend not to have music on board, but last Saturday, was motoring down the Hamble with Zephyrsailor and Flyingjunior on board on a 49' Jeanneau when we decided to test the radio- Classic FM went on full blast- only flaming 'Onedin Line' blaring out! Corny or what!

Dusty Turnaround OK, but not as good as Chariots Rise. The wonderful thing about playlists, is you rank by track, not album. I'm your man, and family christmas better.

Al greener, marvin woofter, sugarary Statton, horney crawford just don't appeal
Nina Simone, Billy Holliday, Jane Siberry, much better

If you like female vocalist, try Emmas Kirkby, Feather on the Breath of God is a wonderful album on which she sings, and based on Abbess Hildegard's work which is stunning. and Fields of gold, by eva cassidy

We like to listen to this latin jazz cd called "Meranguie" some south american sort gave it to the mrs. really good. Or chilled out jazz cd we got from cafe del mar in lanarote. Other than that depends on the mood, have even been known to play some Captain beefheart or Gong.
