I have just stuck on a new B&G H1000wind speed sender ( you know that thing with the three spinning cups), the bearings on the old one packed up.

What do I set my multimeter too to test its working - I am doing this in the dining room and will no doubt use a hair dryer to get the cups spinning.

My multimeter has DC volts, Freq , DWELL, OHMS, TACH, and few other bits .

I don't want to start thrusting in my multimeter probes amongst the 5 pins of the whole unit (It also has wind direction).

Help please.

Without knowing the spec (in particular the interface it purports to have), we, or at least I, are likely just to spin our wheels...

But it is quite likely that the unit is "active" with a bit of electronics and sends information as digital pulses. These are, after all, less prone to undetected interference than DC characteristics such as might be measured with a multimeter.

In other words, I doubt you can get much information with such basic tools...

Mike, Many thanks, Doug
