Why do I get a look of horror from sailors when I say I've just bought a Trimaran?!?!

Is there a pecking order for sailing within the sailing community like there is between Motor boaters and Sailors?

Don't worry about those that live in ignorant bliss. One day they may see the light and realise that there are only three types of boat; a catamaran, half a catamaran and a catamaran and a half.

Until multihull owners get used to being shot down by the lesser informed, you may even hear them mumble things like "if it's not a cat, it's a dog"

Dragonfly 920 is the ideal; accommodation will suffice & I really like the way they sail (& build quality & thinking also)but alas (as ever ! ) that little bit over what the budget should be. So until either a cheapie turns up or there is no other option I have deceided to wait till Nov , have a look at the new telstar (If $ still favourable) & keep looking.

If you'd said "I've just bought a motorbike" the reaction would be the same.

The hidden meaning will be one of the following

-They are dangerous and you will DIE.
-You are a dangerous subversive.
-You are the sort of person who wears brown shoes with a suit.
-You are different, I don't like you.

Never mind, just offer them a tow as you sail past /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I met one of the contestants in the last Vendee Globe and had a tour of his boat. He told me about overtaking a freighter at 17 knots; the officer on the ship called him on the radio and said "you are sailing dangerously". Thereafter whenever he was trying to get the boat to go fast he would say "let's sail dangerously"

In fact hydrofoils, hovercraft and other high-speed craft are required to show a yellow flashing light. Perhaps you could nick a llight from a roadworks next time you go sailing /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

p.s. I read a review of a dragonfly in YM a few years ago. They referred to 'the dragonfly grin' i.e. the expression when sailing one at speed. Just be careful when flying a spinnaker!

You know when your going fast .....

..... when Cherbeoug is just a short hop for lunch ...... (assuming you started in the UK!!)

17 knots is fun in a dinghy - in yacht ... hmm, it'll have to be scrambled eggs for lunch then!

Ah, well see why me and Duncan discussed whether I'd go by mobo or raggie to Cherbourg this year for the annual Cherbourg trip forum. I actually like going there slowly. On my mobo, can get there in about 1.5 hours given just a very short weather window, but it's not as much fun. Really

"if it's not a cat, it's a dog"

I have often wondered how it is that Ships_Cat has a "dog", while ShipsWoofy has a "cat" /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.

A friend has stuff delivered in boxes. On the underside are printed, the words "I'm upside down, please turn me over"

Now why did I think of that? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In the interest of balance, though, I must admit that the stability curve of the new Legend - was it the 28? - as reviewed in PBO suggests that it'll be almost as stable upside down as a multi - and not much harder to turn over.

Just to straighten things up, perhaps it is time that the two of you swopped ID's?
