Hi all

Odd one this. I have a muir windlass and just getting to know it.

When deploying….it will “slip” if it has minimal weight on it. You have to manually put tension on the chain outwards in effect. Whilst paying out…..if a grab the capstan, i can easily get it to slip.

Its odd as that seems the reverse of what a clutch would normally do. When slipping it’s accompanied by a repeated “ting ting ting” sound, like something is not engaged. Pulls in fine. Any one got any thoughts before i tear into it? Dont say bigger anchor for more weight 🤣

I bet you wont avoid taking it apart, cleaning crud, lubricating and putting it back together, so why bother asking 😁 P.?
and on a serious note, sorry no idea of horizontal windlasses, haven't taken one apart yet, got an S&L in the garage to restore...

cheers
V.

Sounds like it may have a centrifugal clutch or ratchet system to it. But I am guessing. When you figure it out post up.
