Hi folks. I have my first boat a Hurley 22 and I am taking out of the water soon to antifoul etc. She has been moored in a drying mud harbour and above the waterline the white hull is browned. How do I get rid of the brown...does it polish off, for example?

Y10 or make your own substitute by thickening an oxalic acid solution with wallpaper paste.

Worth giving Cillit Bang Grime and Lime a try if you have any

I use Starbrite instant hull cleaner and then give it a good polish. Before that I've tried all kinds of stuff including bleach, cillit bang and t-cut to name a few with no effect.

+1 for Cillit Bang Grime and Lime.

I think almost anything acid based will probably work.

Grime and Lime, oxalic acid, brick cleaner, lavvy cleaner.

I suspect the brown stain is organic matter absorbed into a carbonate deposit. Dissolve the carbonate and the stain is gone.
