I have a two-burner metho stove (Ravia) which has a tank at the rear. It is held in place in a horizontal position by the filler, wich is a threaded pipe held in place by a nut. Two elbow joint brass fittings are attached to the bottom and from these pipes lead to the burners.

The tank is made of sheet metal tube (looks like galvanized tubing with a seam) with what look like brass end pieces. Essentially, it looks like a long beer can. It measures about 10" long x 3" diameter.

Apparently, over time salt water has condensed on the surface and run towards the bottom. This as resulted in corosion, producing multiple small holes. The brass ends appear to be intact.

This stove is no longer manufactured and as far as I can ascertain it is impossible to buy a replacement tank.

It seems to me that I should be able to clean the metal, apply epoxy, wrap fibreglass mat around the tank, and apply more epoxy - in effect making a sleeve. The end result should be a fibreglass tube with brass ends.

Will this work?

I cannot find a piece of metal pipe of the same size. In any event I do not have an oxy kit with which to remove the fittings and ends and to make a new metal tank. Neither do I have the skill.

Are there any alternative suggestions that would be better.

I did think of buying a new stove, but that would cost me about A$437.
On the other hand, it might be the best, or safest, option.
