Today , we had MTB 102 come upstream for a visit . What an incredible boat !

The noise as it exited the lock was just beautiful. What it must have sounded like with its original engines must have been something really special.

MTB 102 is run by a bunch of totally dedicated guys.

I did the engines, started life as a pair of Cummins L10 truck engines originally 325 Hp @ 2,100 rpm. Whole bunch of stuff out of Cummins M11's including steel pistons. However the fuel pumps which came from K19 indusrtrial engines which push in serious amounts of fuel.

Add big turbochargers which blow 45 Psi of boost @ 2,500 rpm, engines give honest 660 Hp each and on the starboard motor eight inch exhaust pipe comes out of the turbo with a run of just four feet straight out though the original hull fitting. No muffler, just four feet of eight inch pipe with water injection just before the skin fitting.

MTB 102 Plans?

How far up is she going? I think last year she stopped at Kingston? I would love to see her.
 
It was only a flying visit , she's gone back down now.

Hilarious .... on that YouTube video , at 1.35 ..... the old chap hearing the bow thruster asks the skipper of the Broom ' Has your rudder gone ? '

You should see her in flight. At the 2000 Dunkirk the Dunkirk Little Ships formed a circle off the beach, after the wreathes were dropped from a Lancaster MTB 102 did a dash through the fleet.

Then went to the bunker station to refuel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friend of mine is restoring White Marlin a 1938/9 50ft Thornycroft he hopes to join MTB102 dash on the 2010 Return. I think he will need to install some bigger lumps as I don't think the 6 cylinder GM lumps have enough whoooooomph.

White Marlin used to belong in my family until It was sold for restoration. It is with great interest that I get in touch with the new Owner David Murr, or anyone linked into the restoration.
It is sad to see such strong family memories be sold away like that decision was out of our hands. This is why to be reunited would be amazing.
If anyone knows please let me know. Thank you

White Marlin

Not sure how far back your family ownership goes?
I remember her (in my youth), moored in Henley and beautifully maintained. She then disappeared from that area and I next saw her, for sale, at Penton Hook. I looked over her, but regret she had gone too far for my pockets. I next saw her in T&K, not too long ago, covered in a moth eaten tarpaulin and apparently being restored. She was in a very sorry state.
I was looking at the Pageant entry list and there in the ADLS fleet I saw White Marlin!! Delighted. I assume someone took her on. We are very fortunate to have people prepared to restore these old boats. I look forward to seeing her in full splendour again.

Do you know where she is now moored and who has done the restoration? Sounds as though it could be an interesting thread on it's own?
 
I remember her at Penton and she did look sorry for herself. I echo Mike's comments about people taking on such boats.

Edited to add that it's a shame my Dad is no longer with us. He was coxswain on one of those things.

Slight miss-understanding here. I read briefly about White Marlin and her owner David Murr trying to reunite with this MTB 102. My family ownership lies with White Marlin and that is how I managed to find this post purly through the words "White Marlin" cropping up.
It leads me onto saying thank you for your kind replies on this old subject, and reinstating that my question remains - That if anyone knows how to get intouch with the owner of White Marlin please could you PM & help me out, rather than the owner of MTB 102. Thanks!
 
In answer to your posts Mike and Wavey, Yes, She was in such a state.
Back when I was a boy, White Marlin was my grandad's bride and joy. Richard Thompson - He cared for the boat as if it was his child. He built a enclosed cockpit rather than the open cockpit you see in the pictures himself and rebuild some of the deck and rails that ran around the sides. (excuse the lack of nautical terminology.) He passed away when I was 4 years old, and thus the work stopped.
She sat in mooring near thorpe park for a few years where no work was ever kept to maintain her. She slowly began to list and take on water. Years went past and the weather got the better of the timber and the boat got even worse.
At this point my grandmother could not afford the mooring costs and repairs. She was later sold to David Murr.
From what I believe, David has undergone a complete restoration and taken her back to the open cockpit boat she once was.

All this has only sparked my attention now because as you say Mike she has been entered into the Queen Diamond Jubilee Pageant – River Thames, Sunday 3rd June 2012.

Jokes aside, what a wonderful sight, I wish I could have been there.
