Attended the MSBA meeting at Chatham Maritime today.
All in all a fairly optimistic out look for the leisure industry if not the commercial on the Medway.
We have at present people both on local government and elsewhere who appreciate the priceless advantage of a river on your doorstep and treat it as an asset, not as somewhere to dump trolleys. It also perhaps illustrates an advantage of all interested parties singing from the same hymn sheet.
Re-occuring topic of interest was access to the river by the public and the shore, for boaters.
The recent restoration of Sun Pier was only due to the persistant efforts of few resolute folks, that just leaves one other, owned by Peel Ports.
The Peel Ports representative did mention that the rather ancient vessel used to collect debris, would be going upstream at some point to attempt to collect some of the floating rubbish, when back is service, that is.
The subject of the progress of the water side developments was discussed, including that of the proposed new marina in Chatham Bight known locally as Rats Bay.A very good chance that this is going ahead and will provide a very much needed facility for marine visitors to gain easy and simple access to town centre and spend cash.
Main subject was the forth coming commemorations of the http://www.visitmedway.org/battle-of-medway being held in June, preamble of which was to nerds like me a fascinating run through of the history of the geography of the Medway starting in pre historic times.
Our local MP rounded up the day with an overview of plans for the river, nice to meet up again and hopefully Kelly will be going along with RCC on our annual Admirals River Cruise in July.
