????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Did you go every where at 40 knots? I was using 11gph with the Bayliner at 22knts - and she was a bigger boat.

20L per hour per engine at a 23kt cruise, which is 40L or 8.8 Gall/hour, so about 2.5 mpg on a good day.

Diesel, KAD32 x 2.

dv.

2.3Nm @ 8Knts per Litre
1.75Nm @ 12Knts per Litre (must be clean to get the 12knts)

That's Erm..

10.45Nm to the gallon @ 8Knts
and 7.9Nm to the gallon @ 12 Knts

or

0.76 Gallons per Hr @ 8Knts
1.5 Gallons Per Hr at 12Knts

Diesel 6cyl VW 74hp and I manage to use between 400 and 450 gallons of red a year.

Mine uses about 25.4gph flat out at 40knts so I guess that's about 1.6mpg.

I've not had the boat long & haven't been that far yet so don't know the cruising figures.

However I've been perusing magazine boat tests and it looks like on most planing boats of around 35ft that 60% of max revs gives +/- 0.25 max fuel consumption. (6.5gph)

On my boat 60% max rpm is about 2350rpm. I don't know what speed I'll get at 2350rpm but I'm hoping it will be around 20knts.

This would be around 3 mpg while still not hanging around too much. When I'm next out I'll see what speed I get at 2350rpm.

Does this sound feasible ? Even if not exactly right its is amazing just how much economy improves if you back off the throttles.

Petrolia

We motored from Harwich to Lowestoft 2 weekends ago on about 2 gallons of petrol.

(It is a four stroke 5 hp suzuki - powering a 24ft sailing boat).
