Anyone know where i can buy some mosquito netting in Cadiz? Not many here but all it takes is one....
And any tips for how to fit? Thinking of just doing the forepeak so i can sleep in peace, velcro round the hatch and something to seal off the bulkhead. Not sure it's just mozzies feeding on me. Lot of bites seem a bit small, maybe some kind of little midges or maybe I'm just getting used to them and body's not reacting as extreme as it used to.
All suggestions welcome.
Love Cadiz already, cerveza amd flamenco last night. Fantastico!

Never had much joy with mossie netting, but a friend made us something that works. He got some fine metal mesh and put it in a thin wooden frame. This just slots in where the washboards would normally go. You could do something similar for a hatch too. Takes seconds to rig, doesn't have to be pretty! We also spray the boat every day with RAID insect killer that you can get in any Spanish supermarket. That plus spray on yerself insect repellant really does the job. Can't remember a good ferreteria in Cadiz, but across the way in Rota we found a superb shop that does chandlery as well.
Hope this helps.

Ah, fine metal mesh, now there's a good idea. Could hinge it on one side across the hatches so easy to stow out of the way. Nice tip Capn, thanks. Might stay in Cadiz for a bit so any pointers good hardware shops much appreciated.

I can really recommend Rota whilst you are in the area. As I remember, the ferret shop was about a 10 minute walk. Out the marina entrance, angle right and go up to the main road. Turn right and its along that street on the left. If that sounds twaddle, I got directions from the chandlers just inside the marina!!
Alternatively, turn left, go to where the narrow road passes throgh the old town walls. Just the other side is a terrific Irish Bar. After an evening in there you won't notice the mossies.

Cheers, tried to get into Rota couple of nights ago but they only had 19m berth available. Being a skinflint i declined and had to beat across the bay in the dark to anchor in Puerto sherry. Did question judgement waiting for bouys to start flashing after sun went down! Few hours hop down the coast from Chipiona turned into 11 hours from becalmed to beating for ages. But all well, great days sailing really, settled in Cadiz now in no great rush so might go back across for a look at Rota. Santa Maria sounds worth a visit as well.

Though life, innit.

We always find our mozzie nets in the curtain stores. Ordinary net curtain material is cheap as chips and easy to sew. We have a convenient lip on our hatches that have allowed us to simply sew a bit of thin bungee cord ina hem and fix it that way. We have a larger piece over the main hatch that is weighted down with those little lead fisshing weights. Works a dream but still need to spray etc to really keep the little beggars under control.

Just a thought.

You must go to Santa Maria, small yacht club, very friendly and for a small overnight fee you get the use of the pool! had a great time there last year.

What's the weather doing at the moment, coming out on Tuesday, looking forward to some nice westerlies.....

We can highly reccomend 'tea cosy' type mozzy hatch covers made in Finland and I think in Force 4 catalogue. They have curtain weights in the hem, so same idea as using fishing weights. Have never blown off. Only downside is they are expensive ? £ 20 per hatch.

I spent last winter in Pto Santo Maria.
Well worth the visit. Most of the sherry companies have bodegas in the town so several days of tasting are reccomended.Lots of very good restaurants Romerijo is a must if you like shell fish or any fish .Good Argentinian style steak restaurant in centre.Massive shopping centre just out of town so a bus ride there for stocking up also an Aldi and another supermarket near the yacht club.If you are there and can speak french ask for Jean Claude who works at the club very helpful guy and his wife does the laundry.

Thanks Franky, heard nothing but good things about Santo maria. Doing SPanish lessons in cadiz at moment but might nip up there for a look at the weekend. By the way, for anyone searching in future for mosquito net in cadiz there's a place which sells a wide variety of cloth just off plaza la cathedral on pelota. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
