Moving up from 32\'

Thinking about moving up from my SHE 32 to a bigger faster more comfortable boat with potential for long stays aboard (even eventually liveaboard). Not interested in AWBs, thinking about Sigma 38? HR's too heavy, Westerleys too ugly (IMO!). S&S designs always beautiful..

Any ideas O worthy forumites?

Re: Moving up from 32\'

She 36 is a great boat if you want to stick with S&S, otherwise and older Swan of the 38ft variety. Sigma 38 is also good. Designed for one-design racing and not the easiest boat to sail short handed but not hard either.

Re: Moving up from 32\'

Agree with She 36 and Sigma 38. Personally, I'd keep away from the Lightwaves due to their sandwich hull construction but the Oyster Heritage 37 (note- vested interest!) are good performers.

How important is age?

If you can put up with older GRP two very beautiful "classic plastic" boats are the Nicholson 43 and the Rhodes Offshore 41.

The latter is, with the Hinckley Bermuda 40, perhaps one of the best looking boats ever moulded, but is quite rare in the UK (there's one on our river, though).

Both go like trains, espescially to windward in a blow, and are built like battleships, but both would need refitting below, I dare say.

Re: How important is age?

The Nic would definitely be a good choice - I'll have to sell the idea to SWMBO so I'm going to need all the trappings of comfort included! It'll mainly be just the two of us but I'm thinking 38-43' for space and comfort long term.

Performance of 29 is good. Seen a 34 go - fast and lovely. One day 342 or 37.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
