Moving to Gosport Marina

After much deliberation we have decided to move from Chichester Marina to Gosport! Popped down to discuss and have made a good deal, if I start cleaning my boat myself the move is cost neutral so a no-brainer when you consider the advantages over Chichester.

We've also got one of the inside berths away from most of the wash so thinking we've made a good decision though will miss some of our friends in Chichester but the ability to be at sea in minutes and no lock are just too good to miss.:)
 
We also made the move from Chichester (Northney) to Gosport (Royal Clarence) a couple of years ago. It's been a good move for us; a slightly longer drive but that's more than offset by quick easy access 24/7 to the Solent. As we nearly always turned west past West Pole it saves so much time and about £30 of the red stuff per trip for us. Also significantly cheaper berthing. Only thing you must be aware of is the traffic from the M27 down the A32 through Gosport - time it wrong and it is awful. For example, Friday evening post 7pm good; try it at 5pm = nightmare.
 
To ensure no traffic problems from M27 through Fareham to Gosport avoid the A32 between 4.30pm and 7.00pm. But if you are approaching from the west (M3) try coming in through Stubbington and along Lee on the Solent seafront.

We've also left Chichester this year - just fed up of the lock and the trip down to the open water. We're off to Ocean Village this season.

Not a great fan of Gosport - just too rolly - I once lost a radar reflector there than can only have been caused by a clash with the mast of the boat on the next door berth! Out of preference I would choose Haslar (much more sheltered)
 
Thanks guys. We are actually coming from Angmering so it is quite a bit further and do expect a bit of traffic. That said, I drive a company car and don't pay for my fuel so will suffer the journey by car.
 
+1 and you get a preview of the sea state and viz for free. At the marina when you are filling up on the fuel berth try and go inside - the wash on the outside can roll your fenders under if you aren't careful

Try coming off at J10 doing a U-Turn 100 yards up towards Wickham, then fork right at the roundabout. Up the hill and right at the lights into Kiln Rd, then approx 3/4 mile left into Highlands Rd to A27, right then left to Stubbington/Lee/Gosport
 
Ricky did you check out southsea, not as expensive yes it has limits but cheaper than Gosport, no lock and straight out to Eastern Solent. 10 min by sea to Portsmouth and at least 30 min closer for you

I did Phill, I quite like Southsea but SWMBO isn't a fan so Gosport it is.

Oh ok we moved from LM last yr and have to be honest I like it, small very friendly, staff are great, good facilities on site, and cafe that allow dogs, and a good place to walk them. The down side is the drive in its a bit like driving through benefit street but the natives seem friendly and have never caused an issue.

Got to be a lot better than LM! ;)
 
Well we did move over last weekend and so far we are loving it. Getting out of the lock at Chichester was a pain Saturday and the long trip out to sea through the harbour was also a pain with the many boats racing so I know we've made the right decision. In fact on Sunday morning we wizzed over to Osborne Bay, something we wouldn't usually do with the lock etc. so already changed how we use the boat.

Just need a good summer now.:)
