Reading the thread on Scuttlebut about Log Cleaning Nerves - I'm reminded to ask:

Is there any reason why the log should be so far forward? For me, it's under the forepeak bunks which means its really tiresome for me to access because I have an infill between the v berth, an extra memory foam mattress topper, bedsheets, three duvets and nine pillows in there  :D.

I've been thinking about moving the log further back to a place that's much more accessible without having to move so much gear - this is a long-term nice-to-have, certainly not on the list of things to do soon. (After all, have been managing without a readable log for 3 years apart from the first week in after a scrub down).

location is quite important to accuracy... they need to be away from turbulent water, and where the flow is clean... typically this means a little way in front of the keel, and on the centre line.

Sometimes this isn't practical, but generally that's the best place... a pain I know, but best left where it is really.

Mines a paddlewheel log , like yours , at the front , meaning God knows what must be moved to get to it.
Then I have to get right inside the forward locker to reach it.
Having got fed up with lovingly antifouling it and it jamming up with weed and creatures of the sea in about 2 months I now ignore it and don't use it at all.
I just fit the blanking plug and leave the log inside the boat.
