There's a lot to do, isn't there?

Deadline 17th May.

On the plus side, we have tenants for the house lined up and a home for the cat sorted.

On the downside, only just started packing, need to sort house bills, insurance etc, haven't seen the boat since February and running out of reserves of cash.

So much to do, so little time.

It'll be alright on the night.

So much to do, so little time.

It will get better.
I needed a long time before I realized my new wealth was time.
Time can not be bought, has to be made.
You did. Congratulations.

Bet you're excited.

There have been many setbacks on the way, including swmbos dad dying, couldn't get a tenant, couldn't find anyone to foster the cat, savings running out etc added to which though swmbo is keen, she hates change.

All sorted now (I hope!) so we're allowing ourselves to get excited.

One of the things that surprised me was how much we will save by not running a house and two cars. Near on £650 pm! That's money in the bank before we start.

Still haven't even considered pilot books etc but if we can just antifoul the rest can be sorted after launch. Which hasn't been organised yet, either!

I don't know how long you're planning to head out for, but pilot books is something you can buy as and when. As we've travelled, we've met people going the other way who no longer needed charts/pilot books and offered to sell them on. Even the latest editions are often out of date for certain areas, so we just get local knowledge and use the latest Navionics charts on the iPad when bumbling about.

It'll be alright on the night.

It sure will!

I have done it three times now and the feeling of relief is terrific.

Take it easy, take it slowly. Soon you will be down to doing 'just one job a day'.

Forget 'Pilot Books etc'. complete waste of money and out of date before the ink is dry.

Not sure where we're going. Maybe Scillies then Ireland, maybe (probably) North and South Brittany and winter in La Rochelle. Maybe we'll get to the Rias. Maybe decide to head for Canaries or Azores for winter and not come back at all.

Can't take the cat because it's very furry and everything would be covered in days, don't want the litter tray smell or have it pee in the boat, if we take it we can't bring it back, pets tie you down and anyway it's old so it wouldn't be fair. Apart from which, it hates me.

Poor cat being left behind while you venture to warmer places, I'd hate you too if you were gonna do that to me..!!

Best not to take the cat, probably would hate the boat anyway. Things will get better when you leave , simpler and easier. Enjoy yourselves and have fun. Then you won't have the worries of family and everyday life, you live in the here and now, and the weather forecast. It is not always an easy lifestyle, but totally self-indulgent- and wonderful. Fair winds.

The bit I found hardest (the first time) was getting rid of all my stuff. The reality was that putting it into store would have cost more than it was worth.

First time I tried, I only managed to sort out about 20% of my houseful that could be disposed. I had to go round this about four times, at monthly intervals, each time sorting out the things I could bear to part with from the absolutely essential, until finally I'd got it down to an irreducible minimum which I persuaded various friends to store for me.

You know what? When I came back and collected this precious hoard, I wondered why I'd bothered. Most of it I just trashed.
