Moving marinas seems to be an annual event for us these days.
We have booked a berth at Shamrock Quay for 2012/1013 after spending a year at Port of Poole Marina.
After experiencing the fantastic harbour at Poole and the local sailing to Swanage, and Studland we have now decided to return to the Solent. Whilst we left the Solent last year because we were fed up with the busy nature of all aspects of sailing there, we kind of missed the strengths of the Solent.
It's just so much easier to get work done in the Solent marinas because of the number of yachtie experts in the Hamble, and Southampton. And our boat always seems to demand constant fixing and fettling.
It's also a much better place to spend the winter because one can still get out and spend the weekend even in poor weather. Also, in rotten weather there is usually one of the harbours that is protected and one can get into.
We also found that Port of Poole Marina was very exposed and we suffered many deflated or punctured fenders and damaged ropes which made me worry about the safety of my boat.
Anyway, we are in Saxon Wharf on the hard for a month now polishing and antifouling, preparing for a year of revisiting the Solent haunts, which surprisingly we missed once we left. Never thought I'd say I missed the Solent!
Cheers
