I have a volvo throttle control mounted low down on the stern of my boat. I also have wheel steering and it's a right pain having to look down behind you to move the throttle. I would like to move this throttle onto the wheel housing. Anyone done this and if so what problems can I expect apart from the cable lengths.

No real problems other than ensuring that any curves in the control cables are not too tight.

You can get a bowden cable which can stand a tighter bending radius than standard.

You can get C33 cables from Here

It shouldn’t be a problem. I changed my Volvo control for a Morse one relatively easily.

You will presumably end up with cables longer than necessary. This isn’t a problem although not best practice. They can just be routed in a bigger curve (and secured) to take up the slack and then changed for shorter ones when they eventually wear out. Or you can replace them for the correct length immediately. Confirm with the supplier if you are going to introduce sharp bends. Some cables can cope better than others and the minimum radius should be stated on the data sheets.

I'm now happy I can move the throttle. Next problem. What do I put it in. Nearly every one I've seen has a housing, as in picture. Where can I get one, I've tried almost everywhere except of course the right place! Or do I make one in wood?

Thanks.

The manufacturer of your steering system almost certainly makes a mounting designed to work with the steering pedestal.
