Hi all, just wondering about the likely costs in having a 12 tonne MFV loaded onto a low loader and driven down to Thames ,Limehouse. Lea valley, Regents canal etc area and dropped in again? She is about 30 or 31 feet long and about 8ft beam draught is about a metre maybe a wee bit more.... Im seriously thinking about relocating to London and am evaluating the possability of taking her down to live on her either on canals or elsewhere, she has solid fuel heating , cooker, lots of beds , storage etc She does not get much use in Angus so would get a new lease of life down there ...potentially...Regards Alan

Canals ???.
Pop over to the Thames forum for what I suspect will be hard landing for your dream !
In short the Thames is "Full Up" with a dozen boats recently turfed out of their long term moorings and with precious little hope of finding anything new.

I was £2000 from Oban to S Brittany as a return load about 7 years ago with John Sheperd. Great service and worth getting a quote.

Canals?? Long way from Angus by sea to wherever the first canal would be in England that would link to SE.

Also used John Shepherd, last year, Essex to Mallaig. Think cost was in the region of £1.6k plus cranage.

Those prices seem very reasonable. Just out of curiosity I requested a quote to move my new boat from Exeter to Brighton, 29ft, 3.5t, 9.5ft beam & it came in at £1k plus craneage. I don't know at which point the beam makes a difference to cost (escorted loads & all) but I suppose the only difference is the amount of fuel to cover the distance. To the OP, I think there are places you can still go, a friend of mine bought a narrowboat to live on last year & she's been fine. I think the last time I heard from her she was on the Lea somewhere around Clapton. Don't know what your income is but you'll be well aware of the stupid cost of private rented accommodation in London. Good luck...

A mooring at Limehouse costs £9,923 per annum. They have two 8m berths available and nothing else. It might be worth investigating Brighton Marina, which seems to tolerate, unoffocially, the bohemian liveaboard community. There is at least one other liveaboard old MFV there, though it did not get there by low loader. Is yours not up to doing the voyage under her own power?
