.... countdown to holidays:D

Plan: Falmouth to Kinsale and back. Three weeks including one to dirve around SW Ireland. Never been there. Really looking forwards to it.

We'll probably set sail on Suday, but I see that there are strong winds from the West forecast for Monday, so we may just round the Lizard and heard to Newlyn to wait for fair winds later in the week. If the conditions are right, I'd like to anchor off Mousehole. Can anyone give me some advice of what to do, and what not to do? I seem to recall that it is OK between Mousehole and St Clement's...

I had a look once , and there's not a lot of room and it is quiyte open, so you'd want settled weather.

I have always found it fine. Anchor midway between the Isle and the harbour mouth. Enter from the S, you can see the shallow water to the N on the chart. Holding seems good.
Local crabbers cut through early in the morning so don't expect a quiet lie in, for the same reason, set a good anchor light.

Second all that and here is a pic of us a couple years back, if it is not too late.

Anchorage

We stayed there, fog bound last year for two nights. I agree that enter from south and in middle between the harbour and the island. Looks a little spooky when the cross is lit up!

I did get up at turn of tide as it felt like a rocky anchorage not sand or mud. We held fine though.

Also agree about the anchor light. I felt like we were being 'buzzed' by some of the fishing boats that came past, close and at speed, although they always waved at us (at least I think they were waving)!

There is a post with I think some photos

Good luck. Kinsale was rained off when we got there!
