Motoryacht Cost

Greetings all from the newest member. I've been researching a motoryacht as a second home. I believe the cost of owning a 35 foot, twin gas, sedan class would be $23,000/year not including gas. This is money gone, never to be regained. I figured depreciation, dock fees, insurance, maint, and unexpected events/repairs.
I've owned boats forever, know all the axioms and I am therefore cautiously pessimistic about moving up to this level. Has anyone ever figured the actual cost of owing such a boat or do you just go for the gusto and not concern yourself about the money?

Cammie J is no longer in Guernsey she now lies at Universal Marina in Southampton. And yes she is a lovely boat. I have had the pleasure of spending time on her and she is top condition. She just had a brand new galley fitted.

PS if you know Beaucette Marina you can imagine how much fun it was getting her in and out of there.

Hi Chris, If you are in Majorca how do you know so much about Cammie J then?

So when did you go on board? Has she been sold or just a re-fit as I haven't seen David now in years. Seen it go out of Beaucette a couple of times but only on 10m tides and then you have to breathe in!

Do you visit Guernsey much. I think it is time to be a bit more open on this forum as you are a bit of a dark horse re, work location etc. cmon spill th beans!

How can you get a 90 in there - is the rubber tyre breakwater still across the entrance? Used to wet myself each time I had to run in there (or out)

Ginnybump - looks like you are in the US or you wouldn't be considering gas/petrol engines on a 35 footer. The depreciation will depend upon the age of the boat, but I would say your $23K is about right if you exclude any loan repayments and your boat is relatively new. I have a 37ft/41ft Sea Ray Sundancer with twin 454s in Florida. If you are unduly concerned about the cost, don't own a boat!

Yes, in the colonies. Stikingly similar conversations however. Your remark is right on the money, so to speak. If you are unduly concerned don't get a boat. You are exactly right. Another comment received: do what makes you happy and comfortable. Even though I have the funds to afford it, I am not comfortable throwing money into a hole in the water. Do you use that one over there? Thank you for your participation.

If over the years I had counted the cost, I don't think I'd ever buy another boat... But what ever the cost actually is it's worth every hard earned penny!

Ginnybump - we are in SW Florida and use our boat quite a lot (150-200hr/yr). I have to whisper this otherwise I might upset people in Taunton and W. Lancs: the season never ends. In fact we've just got back from a 4-day, 3-night, 100nm cruise to Useppa Is.(www.useppa.com), our favourite place on Pine Island Sound. Gulf was like glass on the way down and a slight ripple on the way back. Bloody luvly. Where are you?

Re: Incredible shrinking boat

Whats it like then Arthur, haven't seen one myself ?
Will it be reliable, how does it work ?
I can just see the situation where ( if its operated by hydraulic rams ) one of the rams pack up, you come alongside a pontoon for an over night-
Harbourmaster-" how long is she guv?"
Skipper-" depends which side I park it"

Re:sealine 48

apparently owner of targa48#1 bought one, and not happy cos it "feels very weird". Some good ideas incl fab fake teak, some strange, like that rear platfrom. Suggest long sea trial?
