A good pilothouse motorsailor has advantages and compromises. Affordability being a big one. As many are old and tired maybe the best way to afford one if you decision to to buy one of these beauties is to go down the “project boat”F68AC8BD-F883-4564-9E4E-127FC4A1E9A3.jpeg route, especially if you are handy and enjoy restoration and maintenance as a part of your boating life. However woukd be good to get affordable and reliable help when needed. I would be interested in comments on where “less expensive” professional Marne services are readily available in a harbour, marina or mooring in the UK?

"less expensive" is likely to be anywhere where the demand is lower, that is away from the popular places in the south, west and east coast. Inevitably though supply is likely to be less. Remember that materials cost the same wherever you are. The big cost in a boat project are storage, components, and labour. Projects only work on low value boats if you do most of the work yourself and have low cost storage. Avoid boats that are not functioning. BTW it does not matter whether it is a motor sailor or a sailing boat, except that in your example the re-rigging costs will be twice as much as a sloop and replacement engine probably more expensive.

A Fisher "affordable " !!!

His previous posts suggest he already owns it and has re-engined it.

On his question I suspect things have changed a bit since we were last based there but there used to be a number of small companies in the tidal Medway and Swale area which could help out. Also we belonged to a self-help club which was an initial great source of advice.

So, if his name reflects where he's based, I doubt he'll do better elsewhere.

South Coast? More expensive.

South West? Still expensive and facilities more spread about. They also charge travelling time...
