Personally, especially now the kids are grown, I never carry a dinghy, if I can't get alongside then I don't go there. What I would like though is to be able to carry a motor scooter. I wish someone would invent some sort of tackle that would let me carry one on my davits with the ability to swing it down on to the pontoon. It would be great to have transport when I am away from my home port.

You need a monkey bike Byron. But why not just back up to pontoon, drop the bike off the davits and then park up. Ok you will need a small crew to drop it off while you wiz the twirley bits round, but should be no problem for you.

Re: Agreed

I have it mind to develops such a contraption.

It need to be very very light and liftable, perhaps partially fold-upable. It needs to be fairly marinised too, so s/s fasteners throughout and hosepipeable so decent sealed electrics and easily whipout battery for long periods of not being used. Think the engine should be 125 so quite nippy, able to carry two people, with inbuilt decent security so it doesnae get nicked. Pray tell me, focus group er person, how much can it cost? Can it cost four grand please? I promise it will be just what you want with lifting eyes on the steering head and er somewhere near the back too, and snap shackles.

Re: Agreed

Trials bike needed IMHO so can zoom up beaches and over rocks. Or with plank to zoom off back of boat into shallow water, but keep front wheel in the air so engine out of water. But need a bit of a cliff to jump back on boat, from. Perhaps needs thinking out again for Byron though!!

Re: Agreed

Just bought myself and ex demo folding electric bike. Runs on a 36v battery and is said to do about 13 miles on a charge. Nips along at about 12-15mph, don't even have to pedal up hill. It should prove the answer as to why in every French port the baker is always at the top of the hill.

What about a go-ped. No driving licence so you can get pissed and then drive back to the boat, nice and light, folds up in to a nice little bag so you can take it with you round Tesco's or whatever too? And not too expensive.

We'll soon rig something up! I beleive BSA now make a 1000 cc Tempest, that should be whizzy enough for you and lighten your wallet by 10 grand! But I admit it is a beautiful machine and hand built British aswell!
