motor boat propelling system

Hi everybody.
I am really new to motor boats and I would really appreciate advices from experienced people in building motor boats.
My fist problem is:
what kind of bearing or something like that I have to use on the propelling axle in order to avoid sinking /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif the boat.
maybe is trivial for most of view but I am willing to learn.
