Following on from the earlier post about Sigmas, what class of yacht is considered most popular for racing in the Solent nowadays? eg at Cowes Week.
Is it the SB3? Wins the prize for largest number of boats OCS.
Or the XOD? Definite winner of age factor.
The Sunsail fleet of SF37s. Most mentioned, sometimes not very politely.
Or the 40.7s? Probably the largest number of persons participating?

Depends what you mean by "yacht". The SB3s are easily the most numerous, but few would class that as a yacht.

40.7s are the most numerous at cowes, but there was to my knowledge only one racing in private hands at cowes. The rest were on charter, even those who race them privately the rest of the year.
And who can blame them, one owner told me he pays his anual berthing fees with one week's charter. Doubt that will hold up this year...

109s arguably hold the top position in the cruiser racer OD stakes at the moment, and the racing is very close. Just a shame it's a bowsprit boat...
