Most expensive marina for visitors?

I was charged about £42 for one night at Berthon in May this year for an 11 metre boat. I was charged much the same last summer at the marina next to Poole Town quay. If you compare the facilities Berthon is a bargain!!!!!!!

Yes. I'm still angry.

I met a bloke a few years ago who had an 11 month berthing deal in CYH. By moving out for a few weeks in the summer it saved him about 30% on his annual fees. I couldn't understand the benefit for CYH at the time but your post explains why they'd do it.

I met him in Bembridge, where he moved for the month.

Cheers

Bit of thread drift, but it was bonkers. This was 2009 I think, and we were a late booking on a charter. They just wouldn't budge on the price but the charterer just said do it...

Arrived on the day before racing and were allocated one of the pens. Rafted to the only other boat in there on the basis that "the other boats must be coming" and was better to get sorted whilst we were on board. Looked a bit silly in the morning, no other boats showed at all! We had the whole pen for just 2 boats all week. Whilst the rafts at Shepard's (still not cheap) were 12 deep.

After a slight snafu with over budgeting for this weeks sailing I need to shed some cash.
Looking for ways to get receipts for berthing.
Decided to try Berthon in Lymington tonight (£40 for a 34ft)
Anywhere in the Solent that outdoes that for cost? (Not Gosport)

Not quite in the Solent but: I've got a berth booked in Sparkes in Chichester Harbour for a 42 and that's 51 quid!
And, for Salterns in Poole, you need a second mortgage.

Whilst people may consider marinas expensive I don't necessarily think the charges are excessive.
The returns on the investment can't be that great.

Well this is swings and roundabouts, the greater the return, the greater the value of the investment, so it depends when it was bought...

However, try some numbers, 30/night*365 nights=10950/yr, at typical investment return of about 3.5% means that a marina berth is equivalent to a return on capital invested of 312,857 quid.

Obviously should allow a little for loading ratio and expenses. :D

You're all in shock at the idea that the berth is worth more than the boat aren't you? :D
