I would like a couple of mossie covers for the hatches on my Jeanneau.

If at all possible, I would like to find something that actually slots inside the opening, so that you would open the hatch and then push in the mossie cover, but all I can find are the units like small tents that drop over the complete hatch.

Does anyone know if I can find what I want - and if so where please?

Many thanks in advance.

A year ago or so, I had to replace the inner moulding of a Lewmar hatch as it had started cracking - presumably due to UV degradation. The new moulding came complete with a mosquito screen. So, they are available but whether Lewmar sell them separate to the complete moulding who knows.

Cobalt (aka Ben) of the parish works for Lewmar so it might be worth a PM. Having said that, I sent him two PMs recently and am still waiting for a reply. Cobalt/Ben - if you read this, could you possibly get in touch. Thanks

He's obviously successfully completed his Lewmar customer support training:D

Appologies for highjacking the thread.

Have you looked at the Lewmar Trimkits? They include a hinge-down flyscreen.

My boat came with a set to fit all the hatches and portlights, never likely to use them, but I think you need the internal trim with toggles around the hatches to fit them. Apparently the mossies in Finland out perform midges big time.
What sizes do you need?

Hello Quandary and thanks for that.

I have one big hatch in the forecabin - inner dimensions of the opening are 42.5cm x 42.5cm - to the Lip outside is 45x45.

Two small hatches (with rounded corners) - 26cm x 11 (opening size) - 28x13 to the inner frame.

Then there is 1 medium hatch (with rounded corners) in the aft cabin 28x18 (opening) 31x21 to inner frame

Hope that helps :)

I think my forecabin hatch is bigger, but the smaller one over the table might be a match for your forecabin. There are two sizes of opening portlights, 8 in total. I will check the sizes of the screens next time I am on the boat.
I would warn you that I think they are a waste of time because you have to undo them (and that is what we call very futtery) to adjust the hatch, even worse if the linings are not the Lewmar ones with the slots and toggles designed to fit them.
I recall being on a boat at some time with a version of the roller blinds as above but with mesh rather than blackout fabric, might work a bit better

You can buy translucent insect screens for Velux roof windows which roll out in the same way as their blinds, taking account of the range of Velux sizes it might be possible to adapt these or something like them if your hatches do not have frames for the Lewmar screens. Look on the Velux web site for the info. I would be surprised if some other window blind makers do not sell custom made flysceeens.
