The morse steering on my ageing Fury has excessive play. Does anyone know how to adjust the steering box to remove this play? Access to the box is difficult, so I don't want to remove it unless something can be done. I guess it dates back to around 1973. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll probably find that there is no adjustment. It might br worth looking at the cable first. These tend to wear quicker than the box.

You don't say wether its and outdrive or an outboard. If its on an out drive, check the linkages to the tiller arm. A new cable sorted mine out. It might also be worth looking at a hydraulic system if the whole lot is shot.

if you need to replace the cable, it might be worth looking at a teleflex kit. comes with all the bits, new steering box the lot. not much more expensive than the cable alone. they also do an anti feedback one (?)

but as barry rightly says, if you've got the money, ditch the cables for hydraulic.

good luck, steve.
