My simple (old) Morse single lever side-mount control works fine but the 'lollipop'-like black rubber handle has deteriorated. A web search has not thrown up a spare handle (or a spare red button cover for less than a tenner, which I can do without :)). Has anybody found a source of spare handles, please?

Best of luck! There are so many different varieties and manufacturers of the generic "Morse" control and therefore different operating levers and handles, so first you need to find the maker and model number, but even then you are unlikely to find spares unless it is a very recent model.

Nice winter project to whittle one out of wood and epoxy it on to the lever.

Ha! I've done that once already (and it looked very smart in iroko) but I made the shaft walls a bit thin and it split. But thanks for saving me fruitless further search: I'll make another with slightly thicker shaft walls.

Yes. Mine recently went flying over the deck after an inadvertent yank from a strap of my lifejacket.

You can't buy just the black rubber lollipop handle. But you can buy the whole lever complete with it, and the cheapest source I found was https://www.asap-supplies.com/replacement-handle-for-tfx-700ss-control-head.

ASAP also sell the red button cover for a lot less than a tenner, here: https://www.asap-supplies.com/red-neutral-button-cap-for-tfx-700ss-control-head

I refurbished my tatty chrome lever, sprayed it black and repaired the rubber handle by neatly rapping self amalgamating tape around it.

Thanks to all - it's obviously a very well-worn path. I too refurbished my chrome lever in the same way. As it did not take that long, I'll make an improved iroko handle - and treat it to a new button. :)

... Have you thought about using Sugru mouldable glue to craft a new one?

https://sugru.com/

Although I had read about Sugru previously, I probably didn't think of it because I'm more into wood working than sculpting/moulding. A major advantage would be the ability to mould it directly over the shaft, but a major disadvantage might be my inability to create a pleasing one in 30 minutes. I’ll probably stick with wood, as I do prefer it aesthetically even to the original rubber, but I am grateful for your reminder about Sugru (for which I may well have other uses).
