Does anyone know how the morse lever or morse control (the combined throttle and gear lever fitted to most yachts with engines) get its name...?

I believe 'Morse Controls' was the American company that perfected the design that is currently used. It became the generic name, like 'hoover' became the generic name for vacuum cleaners. Teleflex bought up Morse to become Teleflex-morse.

The original inventor of the single lever machanism was a Samuel?? Morse
the mechanism patents were I believe infringed by mercury which cost them a lot as I understand
the MT was the original Morse top mount and the MI morse inclined
Teleflex was a british company with various overseas branches hich they sold off
teleflex uk was bought by Morse and became teleflex-morse which was in turn taken over by teleflex usa who also bought Tx which i believe was a joint venture started by either ex johston and volvo employees or even by the 2 companies

I have no idea whether they are still there but in my youff, I serviced and calibrate Morse-Teleflax's hardness testing machine at their factory in Chrisopher Martin Road, Basildon,Essex.
Actually purchased all my engine contriol cables from them at greatlly reduced prices!!
AND BTW ~ all their cables are sealed for life ~ so adding oil or WD 40 makes no difference.
