Morse engine controls

They are not as sharp in absolute terms speed wise as any modern electronic .
But would you be interested in a flappy paddle car on your daily commute stuck in traffic if the manufacturer told you it swapped gears 0.02 sec faster than a competitor?
A simple slush box over a duel clutch DSG while parking in the supermarket?

The big advantage on a boat ( hint salt water ) is they are uber reliable. No electrotwackerey to ver g gris up .No extra ECUs generally to get wet in a Sod’s law + boats kinda way .

You know it’s gonna start , you know you will park it without a scene in the marina .You know it’s ownership costs will be zero .
I love them .

They have a manly feel and a nice clickerty clunk .
Maintenance wise just an occasional lub of the Bowden cables .

Synchronisation is a fine art , fun acquiring it . I can get mine within 10 rpm .
I dot not miss modern EDC electrotwackery throttles and the potential bills and dead boat stuck in the marina incidents they bring to the party .
