Hi Guys & Gals
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The red squeeze lever on underside of the top of the power control lever on my morse control seems to keep moving and sticking. Is it an easy job to sort cos it seems that no matter what i do within a few times of use I am back to square one and having to hold it in place.

While we're on the subject of Morse Controls one of mine is very stiff and an absolute bugger to get back into neutral, so I awould appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to how difficult a job this is to fix.
Both legs were taken off last year and re-bushed and serviced, would this have caused the problem ?

possibly, if the morse cables were not adjusted correctly when re-installed it is possible that the control's neutral doesnt line up with the engine's

I've taken mine off for the same reason this year. I've only had a cursory glance andn can't see anything obviously wrong but have greased it up anyway. I'm going to look atthe cables next time I'm down there. I know that a slightly sticky cable can have a disproportionately large effect on the load required to move the handle.

Two things may be going on here and may be linked. The stiffness could be due to 1. corrosion in the outer casing (Bound wire coated in plastic), this rust builds up a bulge which nips on the inner cable. 2. the bends in the cable being to tight or 3. wear in the inner lining of the cable (It creates a grove on the bends and can then bind). Easy test is to disconnect at the leg and operate control, or better still disconnect at both ends and try to push pull the cable manually, you should feel any stiffness as they should be reasonably free. If the cable is binding it may have become stretched which takes us on to the second potential problem. The difficulty in getting into neutral is usually because the cable is not adjusted correctly. The procedure is to disconnect at the legs, put ahead and measure distance from neutral position, put astern and measure then adjust so that neutral is equidistance between the two. Then refit and check it returns to neutral each time. If the cable has stretched it won't, you can probably adjust it out but whatever caused it to stretch will probably make it stretch more later and it will go out of adjustment again. If you have twin control points (flybridge) there is a change over system which can compound the difficulty in getting correct adjustment. Best done out of water - it is possible in the water but more difficult and usually very wet!.
Good luck
Eddie
