Join one of the yacht clubs (either CBYC or CYC) and see if they have any moorings left, if not then it's Penarth Marina I'm afraid which is ££££'s. For your prospective purchase it'll be iro £1700 pa at Penarth Marina.

http://www.cbyc.co.uk is Cardiff Bay Yacht Club's website

http://www.cardiffyachtclub.org/ is Cardiff Yacht Club's website

http://www.quaymarinas.com/marinas/penarth.asp?q=Penarth is Penarth Marina.

Failing that there's a public slipway at Channel View where they charge £7.50 a day if I remember correctly.

Forgot about them, they're at the end of our pontoons. Handy in that they have on site maintenance chappies.

The yacht clubs are the cheapest currently. My mooring is £560 pa for a 21 foot boat, on top of which you need to put the £190 pa club membership so it's still way cheaper than either Cambrian or Penarth Marina. Personally I'd rather have the YC membership as a source of help & guidance from those far more in the know than me, it's also a very friendly place.

i would say penarth marina is very good ,the guys keep an eye on your boat and its worth paying a bit more for the peace of mind factor,i also had a couple of mates who had boats there at the same time as us who joined the penarth yacht club in the town andpaying their marina fees through the yacht club got a substantial discount,i think there may be 2 penarth yacht clubs but this was through the one on the town seaside front with no moorings just a clubhouse, not sure of the set up but if you are intrested pm me and i'll try to get more details

I'm not knocking PM, far from it as the setup does look very good and we did consider putting the boat there at first. Ultimately though they're just too pricey for me and I feel I'm getting more from being a member of CBYC than I would from just berthing the boat in PM and it's just as secure / safe, I also have a few friends who were already members of CBYC who recommended it.

I have a friend who moors at Penarth Marina. He is very happy there and tells me that far from being just a cold, berthing place, its very much alive and buzzing. He's trying to get me to change my marina to Penarth.

The other thing to consider is security, which I think someone has touched on. We have had our boat broken into by choosing the cheaper options in the past. Its a miserable experience. For what you get, I don't think Penarth is over-priced. The price takes into account the tidal limits of the Bristol Channel which, if handled thoughtfully can give you a really great cruising ground. Just compare the prices with other areas around uk waters and Penarth looks pretty good.

You say "The Price takes into account the tidal limits" by that do you mean the access to the Channel through the bay, if so would this be the same access from the CBYC ? Because getting out when we want will be a real concern,

CYC is the cheapest all though there is a waiting list for a pontoon birth and a one off payment is asked for that, but you can sell the birth back to the club if you wish to.
You would find the club members very friendly and everyone helps everyone else in times of need.
Highly recommended!!!

I have my boat at Penarth Marina and am very happy there. Staff are friendly and helpful, facilities good and security gives me peace of mind

it is expensive compared to other options, but we often just go and stay on the boat over the week-end and feel very comfortable there.

Cambrian Marine would be good if all you want is a parking spot rather than full service marina and as said there is a waiting list for CBYC
